Convert SBS, Half-SBS, and Over/Under layouts
StereoPhotoView converts the layout of an existing stereo pair: side-by-side, over/under, their anamorphic variants, anaglyph, and row interlaced. Set the input format and desired output format separately before saving.
Input and result
Input: a stereo photo or video containing two views. Result: a new file in the selected layout and resolution. Container format, such as JPEG or MP4, and view arrangement are separate settings.
Distinguishing layouts
| Name used for the task | Source format in the interface | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| SBS, Side by Side | Side by Side | Two views beside each other without anamorphic compression |
| Half-SBS | Anamorphic Side by Side | Views compressed horizontally, requiring restored proportions |
| Over/Under, Top/Bottom | Over/Under | One view above the other |
| Half-OU, Half Top/Bottom | Anamorphic Over/Under | Views compressed vertically |
Choose according to file contents and metadata rather than the extension alone. Choosing the wrong anamorphic variant can stretch the image.
Interface steps
- Install the application and open the source.
- Check “Source Format”. MPO, video with two streams, and files with stereo descriptions may be detected automatically; otherwise choose the actual layout.
- Inspect left/right view order and the proportions of a familiar object. Align the views if needed.
- Choose “File” → “Save as…”, a new file, then the output layout and resolution. The first view defaults to left; “Reverse order” changes the output view order.
- For video, also select available encoding settings. Open the result, check its dimensions, and set the source format manually if the output container does not store a stereo description.
Documented CLI examples
Create a new empty folder named converted. These commands use syntax suitable for Windows PowerShell and Linux bash. Check available layouts with stereo-conv --layouts and containers with stereo-conv --video-formats.
MPO → row interlaced, output image size 1920 × 1080:
stereo-conv --output-layout RowInterlaced --size '1920*1080' -o "converted/interlaced.jpg" "photo sample.mpo"
Video containing two video streams → anamorphic side-by-side:
stereo-conv --output-layout AnamorphHorizontal -p -o "converted/half-sbs.mp4" "source video.avi"
The second example specifically assumes two input video streams: the reference describes their automatic detection. For an already packed Half-SBS source, specify the corresponding input, such as --input-layout AnamorphHorizontal, if metadata does not identify it.
Limitations
Do not choose settings from the filename alone. --size sets the output image size; check the resulting resolution and proportions against its intended use. Video containers and codecs depend on the FFmpeg build. Layout conversion does not restore lost resolution or create a second view from 2D content.
