Create a red/cyan anaglyph

StereoPhotoView converts an existing stereo pair into an anaglyph for viewing with colored glasses. The stereo-conv utility uses AnaglyphRC for red/cyan output. The source must contain left and right views.

Input and result

Input: two JPEG images of one stereo scene, an MPO, or another documented stereo format. Result: a JPEG containing a red/cyan anaglyph. Viewing the stereo effect requires matching glasses.

Interface steps

  1. Download the application and open an MPO/JPS or two separate files, left first and right second.
  2. Check the source format. For JPEG without a stereo descriptor, choose its actual layout manually.
  3. Align the pair if necessary. Select red/cyan anaglyph for preview and inspect the result through the glasses.
  4. Choose “File” → “Save as…”, a new JPEG name, the red/cyan anaglyph layout, and resolution in the file settings.
  5. Open the result and check vertical alignment and expected depth. Choosing a display mode without saving does not create an output file.

Command line

Create a new empty folder named anaglyph-output. These commands use syntax suitable for Windows PowerShell and Linux bash. Run the example matching your input.

From two images:

stereo-conv --output-layout AnaglyphRC -o "anaglyph-output/from-pair.jpg" "photo-left.jpg" "photo-right.jpg"

From MPO:

stereo-conv --output-layout AnaglyphRC -o "anaglyph-output/from-mpo.jpg" "photo sample.mpo"

The first separate image is treated as the left view, the second as the right view. Check your utility’s list of layouts with stereo-conv --layouts.

Limitations

Anaglyph encodes views through color, so color reproduction differs from the source photos. Mismatched glasses, reversed views, and alignment errors interfere with viewing; conversion does not automatically correct all of these. The mode does not create stereo depth from one ordinary 2D photo.

For other viewing methods, see display modes; for other layouts, see stereo layout conversion.
